Charlotte’s annual city-wide celebration of all things cycling keeps on rolling. Now in its 20th year, Bike Charlotte caps a long, hot summer by promoting some cool, curated bike routes that can be done anytime! The virtual version of Bike Charlotte replaces the spring’s canceled in-person events with virtual rides that accommodate nearly all levels of cycling prowess, and showcase city bike infrastructure, neighborhood connectivity, and off-road options, too.
We’re getting a break! In the heat, that is. What better time is there to hop on your bike, feel a cool breeze in your hair, and see North Carolina’s Autumn beauty? Really, this is why we live here!
Rolling a favorite route on your bike is the best way to see more of our fair city (or region) at a pace you can enjoy, so welcome to Virtual Bike Charlotte! It’s 3 weeks (and 4 weekends), which makes it even more convenient to roll around your favorite route — or try a new one. We have some! But we’d like to see yours, too.
This year Bike Charlotte runs from October 16 through November 8. We’re posting some favorite routes from our Charlotte Bike Legends, like Pam Murray’s PMTNR, and a few others, like a century ride featuring all of Charlotte’s Greenways.
We want you to do the same! Create a route with your kids or your friends that runs through your neighborhood, to a park, path, or even a favorite outdoor dining patio. To make it more fun, see if you can incorporate a greenway, Shared Street, or Charlotte Bike Route along the way. Where does it take you? Is it expert level, or is it easy to ride for a novice or kids?
Snap a photo of your ride and share it with us! Post your photo on social media with the tag #BikeCLT2020, or tag us on Instagram at @bikecharlotte. You may win a prize for your creative, colorful, and SAFE! submission. Have fun with it! And Enjoy the Ride…
