Our Park and Rec man, Michael Kirschman probably said it best; “I don’t think anybody is unsupportive of greenways.” Folks as city and county leaders for greenways more than any other public amenity. With walkable, bikeable, car-free connectivity to work, school, shopping, parks, and more… it’s easy to understand why. But getting a greenway from “asked for” to “on the ground” is no small nor swift task. Greenways for Mecklenburg is hoping to change that, challenging Mecklenburg County to pick up the pace and quadruple the number of greenway miles by 2035.
The non-profit — of which well-run media is a fan and a sponsor — made its public pitch today at a news conference at, where else, along Little Sugar Creek Greenway. Check out the coverage from WSOC, and our man Erik Spanberg at the Charlotte Business Journal. Better still, check out greewaysformeck.com and find out how to advocate for these great public spaces.
