Even sitting across the room from the screen, we knew this was gonna be ugly. And, truthfully, the buzz surrounding the release of the KFC Double Down Dog has been even more unattractive than the actual pictures that have blown up all over social media. Hailed as, “unhealthy”, “insane”, and even “apocalyptic”, we call this one nothing short of winner, winner, chicken dinner.
First things first. The Double Down Dog is a hot dog, wrapped in a fried chicken “bun”, and covered in cheese sauce. The company pic shown here is far more flattering than the unfiltered pics churning in our newsfeed. Speaking of churning, KFC is (mercifully) conducting a limited release of the Double Down Dog. We know, we know. Hater’s gonna hate. The gastro-curious, however, will have to find their way to the Philippines where a scant supply of 50 Double Dogs per day are available at select stores.
There’s no presence of the KFC Double Down Dog on the company website, and news reports say there are no plans to unleash this latest Double Down creation here in the US. (Yes, you may recall there’s a KFC Double Down Sandwich, too. Don’t laugh. KFC claims 10M people bought one in the first month of release back in 2010.) And guess what? There’s no need to do go stateside with the Double Down Dog, either. Yum! brands hasn’t likely made as many simultaneous headlines since Taco Bell released the recipe for the ingredients in its meat. (Google it.) As Oscar Wilde said, the only thing worse than being talked about, is not being talked about. Congratulations, KFC! You win the Internet today!
