Admit it. As soon as you get an email introduction, or someone suggests they’ve “got a guy for that,” you immediately research them on social media. Heck, we’re not ashamed to admit it. If you’ve agreed to meet that someone in a public space, or want to recognize them in a crowded place or networking event, it’s an easy first step before making the “real life” connection. And regular LinkedIn users get that little reminder every time their public profile is viewed. Sure, you’re keeping your work history and contacts up to date, but when’s the last time YOU took a look at your own profile picture? Make today the day. Here’s why:
The “business side” of social networking is making it a bit easier for us all to shine a little brighter. In a blog post today, LinkedIn announced the addition of photo filters, and tools to crop, brighten, lighten, contrast, and generally make your profile picture look its best. Granted, that picture might not get you the job, but LinkedIn purports that profiles with pictures get 21 times more views, 36 times more messages, and up to 9 times as many connection requests. By our math, that’s a whole 66 reasons to get on it.
